Watch Trends

The current popularity of rose gold—sometimes referred to in watch circles as red gold—has repercussions far beyond the karat gold watch market. Using 18k rose gold has become standard not only in limited edition complications but also in rugged sports watches and even women’s jewelry watches. It’s dramatic, however, at a price, usually well above $10,000. But now rose gold looks are appearing at price points well under $1,000. That’s thanks to new brushed and other rose gold plate or PVD steel versions. With the rose gold trend, real or faux, appearing on both ends of the fine watch spectrum, watch sales are more likely to dip into the red. — Jeff Prine
