Swallow Tales
Jewelry Trends

Although they won’t be replacing the heart as fine jewelry’s most iconic symbol, swallows are the latest heartfelt figures to take flight. Swallows most famously return every year to the town of San Juan Capistrano, one reason perhaps they represent loyalty. Indeed, as far as feathered friends go, swallows are among the most loyal, taking mates for life. Swallows also appear in many tattoo arts, where their sleek figures were historically coveted by sailors. As legend has it, swallows carry souls heavenward, so their status in precious jewelry makes sense. — Jeff Prine
