Golden Facets
Gem-shaped designs in metal make the cut.

Carved gemstones have been taking the place of metal in rings and bracelets for the past few seasons. Now metal is returning the favor, taking center stage in gemlike faceted forms. Is it thanks to high precious metal prices that gold is finally taking center stage? At $850 an ounce, gold is now about $6 per carat. No matter: When metal replaces gem, it’s surprisingly brilliant. These angular shapes are very modern and architectural in appeal. Faceted planes catch the light with glamorous results, giving gems that Midas touch. — Cheryl Kremkow
