Show Preview: New Gurhan Silver

Although Gurhan is still best known for modern forms on high-karat gold, the designer has been working in pure silver too for more than two years now, first in a men’s then in a women’s collection. Although his women’s silver collection has used many of the hammered forms of his gold collection., the men’s collection launched in 2007 was a dramatic departure, with harder more geometric shapes. This year in Vegas, a new collection of silver for women uses some of the harder geometry of that men’s collection but with a more traditional floral inspiration. The new collection is inspired by Iznik pottery, named for the town in Turkey where it was created. Openwork shapes help keep earrings and pendants light in feeling and gold and diamond accents keep it precious. The collection is also aimed at impulse buyers, with retail price points starting below $500.
