Trendy Crafts & Crafty Trends
Trendy crafts may seem like an oxymoron, but one of the strongest trends in the urban scene is DIY handmade items. Knitting is coming back as a pastime. Hand decoration of shoes, shirts, and walls, with its aura of personalization, is replacing logos and brands as a signifier of taste. This influence is spreading into mainstream design as well, of course. In jewelry, hand finishes and organic-looking shapes that show the mark of the craftsman’s hand are a very strong trend. Those who don’t want to actually do-it-themselves represent a growing market for crafty entrepreneurs with an urban edge. One example of the hipster craft boom is the popular Renegade Craft Fair, which takes place twice a year in Chicago and once a year in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Last weekend 200 companies sold their handmade products at the Brooklyn edition of the fair, which has become an important style-spotting venue. Last year at the Renegade fair, for example, skulls, swallows, and branches were the most popular motifs. Skulls and branches were also very important in jewelry design last year and swallows are an important new motif this year. So what was the most important trend at this year’s Renegade fair? The handmade craft motif of the moment is sea life. The octopus and squid and other ocean creatures more creepy than cuddly are enjoying their moment in the spotlight (and on t-shirts, ties, cards, and hand-painted shoes.) Should we expect to see jewelry with tentacles? More than a few pieces were seen in Basel this year, including some spectacular South Sea pearl brooches by Autore (an octopus and even a jellyfish), so it’s quite possible.

Here is a trend that shows a jewelers original thinking! The Fleur di lis beautiful on the Peureux Prefect Vodka bottle. A Jewelers display window was seen featuring the Peureux Perfect Vodka Bottle, a fleur di lis necklace and two martini glasses. Guys listen up it is so romantic! The jeweler told me the fleur di lis is gaining the symbolism of “Perfect”
as a gift to women in the Trendy New York circles.People love to make play on words so it is easy to slip a compliment in on a date when ordering the Peureux Perfect Martini at a Rhode Island or New York upscale establishment carrying the brand. It is being sold with two expensive martini glasses, a bottle of Peureux Perfect 1864 Vodka and a fleur di lis diamond necklace. It is causing a cult like following
of vodka snobs due to the challenge the vodka makes that it is the smoothest vodka in the world and the taste test challenge.
Back to the jeweler…
She told me she thought of the combo when a few of her friends were out together enjoying some Peureux Perfect Cosmopolitans. The discussion started about how pretty the Peureux Perfect bottle is with the light blue fleur di lis and how nice a display it would make with a Fleur di lis diamond necklace and two beautiful martini glasses. Her girl friends were telling her she had a great idea and she should put the display together.I did a double take as I walked past a jewelry store when I saw the bottle in the jeweler’s window. Very inspired because you rarely if ever see Martini Glasses or Vodka in a jewelers display window.I went in to ask about it she said it is a popular item. Women love this well thought out compliment. The men get extra points for the symbolism entwined into the gift. She has the words above the display “Tell her she is perfect in a way she will always remember”.
She passed on a story that involves one gentleman who used this idea but proposed with a diamond instead of the Fleur Di Lis. He still used the Perfect Bottle and the two martini glasses though. He was explaining to his lady love about the perfect life they would have, the perfect kids, the perfect woman she was for him and hoped she thought the same of him.He found a great piece of history on the Peureux Perfect1864 Vodka website. This romantic gentleman added some history about King Stanislov of Poland from the 18th century. The King who was a great lover of Vodka said when he came to visit King Louis the XV “it was comparable to none in the world” So this gentleman said “as a woman you are comparable to none in the world!”
Of Coarse her response was very positive. They toasted to a “perfect Life” in the pretty new Martini glasses he bought and of coarse she said yes, yes, yes.
Her idea seems to really get the attention of gentlemen that have a birthday or anniversary to buy for. It seems the women that are receiving the present can’t wait to tell Mom, sis, girlfriend etc. the whole romantic story. The woman go back and tell the story to their guy with the sentiment of how much they would like it if they would do that for them. The jeweler said they immediately want that “whole setup” She said if the trend continues much more she is thinking of doing some creative fleur di lis creations of her own. Some of the customers are surprised she can’t sell the Peureux Perfect vodka. She has to tell them where to shop for it.
Here’s to Romance and Peureux Perfect1864 Vodka
Are all you guys listening. We ladies love that kind of creativity from you.Oh and by the way, we’ll never tire of you implying we are perfect or comparable to none in the world!

I couldn’t understand some parts of this article, but it sounds interesting…
The idea or symbolism here is Perfect1864 Vodka has PERFECT written across the front of the bottle. It is sort of a Law Of Attraction intension going on. We want to surround ourselves with and remind ourselves and others of our feelings and emotions that are positive.Even though it is vodka it is representative of Perfection. What is more Perfect than someone you love telling you that you are perfect? That is how I see it and I love any quantum symbolism.

This article is very interesting. I do like the particular shapes of these pieces. I think they are spot on when they say that organic shapes are becoming more and more popular. Which is why I am a huge fan of David Yurman. The double helix cable design was genius!!
The big difference between the corporate- or capitalistic-leaning sects and those of the recently and somewhat jokingly dubbed “edupunk” sect are in the underlying ideology of mashups, a do-it-yourself mentality, and above all affording learners and educators sufficient flexibility and opportunity to guide and discover their own learning paths. They thrive on open source technology, and the the notions of sharing and reuse.

The octopus or jellyfish jewelry trends is unblievable. How the designer think about making the these design??!! I am so amazed by reading this post.
The pearl and other materials used in this octopus jewelry is attractive. The color combination seems very creative and it looks like a real octopus. It is amazing.
