Tattoos With No Pain

Tattoo Your Diamond, an unusual diamond brand by sightholder Dalumi, will soon be available in the United States. The brand is in its third year in Italy, where it is sold exclusively through diamond wholesaler Laudiam. The “tattoo” is a personalized message engraved on the girdle of the diamond. Settings are designed to reveal the message and consumers are given a magnifying glass so they can read the message. So OK, laser engraved girdles are nothing new, although Dalumi’s service does allow customers to have the message engraved in their own handwriting. But, let’s face it, a diamond tattoo is just so much cooler and more romantic than a laser engraving. Until the brand is available here (Dalumi has, up to this point anyway, been looking unsuccessfully for one large retail partner to bring the brand to the U.S.) you can just use the tattoo concept to help younger customers understand (and covet) a laser-engraved message.

How oh-so-typical of close mindedness in the jewelry business. I think it’s a good idea. We get young men in our stores all the time who have tattoos. I think it’s a language they would understand especially from an older sales associate.

  3. Actually, according to a recent survey, 36 percent of people between the ages of 16 and 25 have tattoos. I think older people don’t realize how mainstream they now are.

  4. A question, though…what percentage of the tatooed massses will part with enough bucks to purchase a diamond large enough to laser-engrave anything readable?
It’s important to remain focused on why the diamond is beautiful, and create a mounting which will endure beyond a few short years. We owe this to the consumer, not any more fluffy distractions.

I couldn’t find that exact ring, but the brand is Dalumi (www.dalumi.com), and they have a website http://www.tattooyourdiamond.com where you can actually tattoo a message around the diamond.

I think it’s an interesting idea actually. Individual & quirky always sell well & as long as the purchaser’s bank account will stretch to the cost, then I can see this becomming very popular indeed.

  9. This is very interesting. I have been doing something similar for many years, offering such engraving on the girdles of engagement ring diamonds, but to be honest for something that is never visible (in fact you will struggle even with a 10x loupe to see the writing.

  10. Its a nice post !!!!
